Selyanov was born in 1955 in Olonets. His hometown is one of the oldest and most famous in the north of Russia. Serezha was very proud of his father, who was a fighter pilot. That is why the boy really wanted to be like him and dreamed of flying. However, having slightly matured, Sergey Selyanov realized that he wanted to become a writer. This hobby briefly captured the young man. In the end, he decided to become a cinematographer.
Despite the fact that the addictions of the hero of this article have changed several times, by the end of the seventh grade he had fully decided who he wanted to become. So, a thirteen-year-old boy firmly decided what he would be in life, that is, he did at this age something that many people cannot accomplish throughout his life.
Sergey Selyanov, whose family moved frequently, traveled a lot as a child. Due to the peculiarity of the father’s profession, Sergey and his sister had to change several schools during their studies. Needless to say, how difficult were these moves for the children?

The first work of a young director appeared on the screens in 1980. This picture has caused a lot of controversy and discontent. Selyanov Sergei Mikhailovich, along with Nikolai Makarov, filmed a full-length comedy drama called “Angel Day”.The film was shot based on the work of Mikhail Kovalchuk. Not only that all expenses were paid by Selyanov himself, so also the shooting of the painting took place underground. And this is no accident, because the film did not comply with the policies of the party of the time.
Many film critics even now say that this picture was, in the Soviet Union, a kind of first independent film experience. Due to contradictions with the party, viewers saw the picture only eight years later.
The second directorial work was published in 1990. It was the film "Spirits of the Day", shot in the genre of mystical drama. The film was created completely legally and in concert with the party, at the famous film studio "Lenfilm". In this picture the only producer was Sergey Selyanov. His films have become innovative in their own way. The second picture opened a new actor's direction. Yuri Shevchuk - composer, poet and musician - played the main role in the film.
Film company founder
In St. Petersburg in 1992, Sergei Selyanov founded the author's cinema company STV. He then decided that it was necessary to create high-quality domestic films and actively promote them to the people. His film company has become very popular and successful, with a large number of directors began to work with it, among which it is worth to highlight Sergei Bodrov Sr., Sergei Bodrov Jr., Philip Yankovsky, Alexander Rogozhkin and Alexei Balabanov.
Producer and screenwriter
Sergei Selyanov decided to try his hand at writing the screenplay for the film, and this, by the way, he did quite well. In 1994, as a result of joint work with Alexei Balobanov, the painting “Castle” was published. This drama was filmed on the novel by Franz Kafka - a deep philosophical work, which remained unfinished.
Sergey Selyanov worked very productively. His films were released every year. So, in 1995, the world saw the drama "The Time of Sorrow has not come yet." The picture, created by Selyanov, received a large number of positive reviews and was awarded the Promotional Award at the Cottbus at the IFF.
A large number of films were released under the brand name of the STV film company, which was created by Sergey Selyanov. Alexey Balabanov and Sergey Selyanov worked on the cult films “Morphine”, “Blind Man's Bluff”, “War” and “Brother”. The drama "Sisters" was created in conjunction with Sergei Bodrov Jr. Selyanov collaborated with this director in his work on the film “The Messenger”, shot in a mystical genre. Unfortunately, this film was never finished due to the death of almost the entire film crew and Sergei Bodrov Jr. himself in the Karmadon Gorge. The tragedy occurred in the Chechen mountains, where the shooting of this film took place.
Awards and recognition
For all his creative activity Sergey Selyanov was awarded a large number of film awards. Particularly noteworthy is the American award of the Motion Pocture Association, which he received in 1999. This award is issued by the Association of Entrepreneurs in the field of cinematography.

Until 2009, Selyanov served as vice president of the producers' guild of the Russian Federation.
It is worth a few words to say about one of the most famous paintings of Seljanov. The premiere of the film took place in 2002. The film describes the events of 1944, taking place in Finland. In essence, this is a picture of three people: the captain of the Soviet Army, Ivan Kartuzov, the Finnish fighter Veikko, and the local woman Annie.
Ivan Kartuzov is escorted to the place of interrogation after the accusation based on the denunciation. But his car was subjected to air strikes, with the result that only he survived, but was seriously contused. He is saved by a local girl. She found Ivan in the woods and dragged her home. At this time, not far from the place where his route passed, German soldiers sentenced to death a young Finnish soldier. They chain Veikko to the rock, before dressing him in an officer's German uniform and deliberately leaving the sniper rifle. Having shown ingenuity, the young man was able to pull out a wedge, but he needed to remove himself from the shackles. In search of the necessary means, he comes to the dwelling of the girl who saved his life.
At this time, no one knows that Finland has made peace and left the war. The whole situation is aggravated by the fact that the characters speak different languages.
Other films, in the creation of which Selyanov acted as a producer: "Ghost", "I will not return", "The guy from our cemetery", "Mongol", "Cargo 200".
